Coming from Canada, being a writer and Jewish as well, I have impeccable paranoia credentials.

Yeah, I mentioned the Israel program. Whatever your bosses did was on their own, and not official, and the Montreal community was historically kinda insular, and, from the POV of south of the border, kinda backward. Kinda more like any group of immigrants networking with their own (the Koreans do that down here, these days) , than any official Jewish community socialism, which is the way I read your earlier post.

        WTF paranoid ?

What's paranoid in noting that people who went to the same schools, grew up together, etc, are doing business together when they're older ?

Does anyone ever say- look at those Catholics, sticking together!

Two Jews do something together and it's:

From what I can gather, the peculiar linguistic-religious-political situation in Montreal historically made the Montreal Jewish community more insular and tightknit than most in North America.

And yeah, Koreans do stuff like that, Viet Namese, etc. Sicilians used to. Catholics in general? I doubt it. At least here, where the Catholics are of pretty diverse national origins.

So I think I agrees with both of youse.

              Give it up.

I'm not saying it's 'peculiarly' Jewish, in a kind of essential way. Just remarking that it's only normal that a small, exiled minority, would acknowledge the benefits of sticking together to preserve their cultural specificity.

Communities build their own, informal social networks. There are many human sentiments of solidarity that arise from proximity... If your neighbor doesn't have anything to eat because he's lost his job, you'll give him something, but still you're probably not UPSing flour and vegetables to people 500km away from your city.

The French Canadians in New England were quite well known for this, IIUC.

                          Molly, you're from Cov!

I spent a couple of years living there, have many fond memories, and still visit it. Whereabouts did you live?
