Especially when one does not speak english natively ... and thus perhaps is spelling the word as he finds it typically in his native language. And particularly even more so when perhaps given the context it is not an inappropriate spelling...Guetto seems to be an acceptable (or at least fairly common, by google rank) spanish spelling for the english word ghetto. 50k pages for Guetto, 185k pages for Gueto, 493k pages for Ghetto, when limited to spanish language pages. Gueto and Ghetto are listed in the dictionaries I found, and Guetto is likely a word that has formed out of the combination of the two words. Such words are even more likely to be formed and used in "ghettos".
And thus, given we're talking about hispanic 'ghettos', I think using the spelling Gueto / Guetto is not inappropriate, particularly given the desirability of having a separate word for jewish ghettos as opposed to spanish guettos / guetos .
