I, too, thought the show was on its way to oblivion but this year the quality of the final contestants was better than before, which I think has gained it some credibility. I actually don't normally watch Idols but this year it was kind of interesting to see how this heavy metaller guy fared. Of the previous seasons I don't actually recall much else than that they have produced Hanna Pakarinen and a couple of übercrappy girl bands. And also the loads of idiots without any musical ability who take part in the auditions and get humiliated by the jury. Their treatment is kind of cruel but they are willing victims, afterall.

Aivo, dude, are you serious? It wasn't great last year or the year before that, but NONE of the finalists had a voice with good tone. All of their pitches were out there, none of them sang one single song pure. That's a huge thing in my mind, not a single person who can sing pure. None. 0. Of course you know, it's a competition for amateurs, but look at American Idol, the pitch problems they have are way different, and there's bunch of competitors who do sing purely and on top of that, some of them actually have a good strong voice. FInnish Idols? Yet to see one, including all the years.

I did notice that Ari somewhat trashed the Soundgarden song chosen by the jury but otherwise their pitch problems didn't bother me much. The US has something like 60 times more people than Finland so it should be expected that the finalists are more skilled in the US.

Aivo, yeah, that's for sure... I mean, you have to expect higher standards when outnumbering and this is basically a talent thing in this competition..

BUt it still bothers me that not a single competitor showed strong and pure sound without pitch problems. Like Kristiina, he had no voice at all, it's a joke he got as far as she did. There was talent for sure, many participants had gifts and were talented, but none of them had ... worked on it enough. Of course this is to be expected, however, I find it irritating that not one pure voice came out.

Even this winner, Ari, he has lots of pitch problems, if we only talk about his voice. I don't think it's that bad, it can be worked I think, but right now, he can't perform a song in a radio and sound professional. I'm sure he will learn though, I mean I think at least he has a good voice to be worked with, unlike Pakarinen, who still has pitch problems. She couldn't even perform the Eurovision entry 100%, she was all over the place with her voice and that is just sad.
