hmm, I'd ask my friend who lived there like 15 years. She lived in that region too, I believe. Though I think she was closer to the border. I can't tell where the border is on that map.

    probably some kind of housing.

just read an article about this on cnn.com. It seems public pressure forced google to use more recent photos instead of older ones that were more flattering.

I'm not sure if this link will work at the proper zoom level. let's see:

Do people like blue roofs or is there some other reason? . I already know what the reason is, I read the article.

edit: got it working. Used link to page.

The real question is why you are scanning Saudi Arabia. Do you plan an attack or something?

yep, those are all blue tarps.

this pic is kind of interesting. you can see how much dirtier one part of the city is compared to another part. It's just a zoomed out view of the above link.

Someone on teh Internets said that this is the Iranian patrol boat base from which the British sailors were captured:

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

Interesting patterns in the Egyptian desert, the entire area is full of them:

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

I think I know what this is, anyone want to guess?

                            Some WW2 trivia:

The little Pyramid in the center of this image is a memorial at the crash site of Hans-Joachim Marseille, on of the greatest aces of WW2. He was called "the Star of Africa":

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.
