You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. That's gonna make me renounce my 18th Century throne room in favour of living under a bridge.

        • Those who live under bridges are truly a sorry lot. They don't even have enough wits about them to obtain their sustenance when it is put directly in front of them.

A more apt comparison would be the treatment of a past king or prince who is off his rocker.

Sad and mad. 70%+ of them have severe mental disorders here, and I imagine it's much the same in Yankistan.

(Most here abandon the bridges for the subway or the like during winter. The rest freeze to death.)

Replace 'I'd rather be George II' with 'I'd rather be George III'.

No, being poor is only one requirement. There are lots of poor people who don't qualify.

                        • The fact that

your definition of poor differs from that of the government has no bearing on other peoples knowledge of Medi-cal and similar programs.

                          Who Can Get Medi-Cal?

People in many different situations qualify for Medi-Cal. They are listed below. If you are not in one of these groups, call your county social service agency to determine if you qualify for a county-operated medical assistance program.

You may automatically be eligible for Medi-Cal if you receive cash assistance under one of the following programs:

SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Program)
CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids). Previously called Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC).
                          Refugee Assistance
Foster Care or Adoption Assistance Program.
Even if you don’t receive cash assistance, you may be eligible for Medi-Cal if you are one of the following:

                          65 or older
                          Blind
                          Disabled
                          Under 21
                          Pregnant
Diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer
In a skilled nursing or intermediate care facility.
Refugee status during a limited period of eligibility. Adult refugees may or may not be eligible depending upon how long they have been in the U.S.
Parent or caretaker relative of a child under 21 and
The child’s parent is deceased or doesn’t live with the child, or
The child’s parent is incapacitated, or
The child’s parent who is the primary wage earner is unemployed or underemployed.
Do I Have To Live In California To Get Medi-Cal?
Yes, you must be a resident of California to get Medi-Cal. A California resident is someone who lives here and plans to stay here, or someone who is working or looking for work in California.

                          • i think it might be inevitable for inequality to grow in the US, especially in the large multinational corporations. why?

before, most corporations profits were made in one country. workers were renumerated based on their productivity. today, workers productivity has increased, but the corporations profits have increased even more as they operate in several countries. the bosess money is tied to performance, so overall renevues have increased, meaning their pay will increase (they are managing larger and larger number of people and sums of money)

IMO, it's not really the execs who'll make the brunt of income disparity. It's the increase of capital's share in added-value, at the expanse of labor.

Owner of capital get increasingly rich. And their extra revenue is less and less taxed, because they could just invest abroad with so much ease. OTOH, the workers are increasingly highly taxed (sales tax increases pretty much everywhere) and benefit from increasingly less redistribution.
Those who only rely on their job to live are increasingly unlikely to save and amass capital. They are increasingly likely to just slave away, while the wealth they produced is leeched off by the capitalists.

                              • you cant have your socialist system without taxing labor at a high rate, so dont complain about high tax rates when thats the only way to pay for your systems. theres no long term proof that capitals share is increasing - remmeber, just because that the labor share decreases doesnt mean that capital share is increaseing.

and in a capitalistic society, anyone can own capital, all you have to do is buy stocks.
