Ok so I read about some guy killing himself in the army yesterday or the day before that. It happens every now and then, once or twice a year. Mostly people with problems in their civilian lives.
Anyway, it made me kind of angry, now that I remember the way we handled things. Because we got this pretty unstable guy as a private, we knew he is unstable, because we were warned. His life was a big mess, drugs, criminal youth, and soft in the head. Had been kicked out twice before.
So the minute he got in, I recognized him. The guy who looks unstable, yeah that must be him. OK we KNOW he is unstable. Why don't we just like.. not let him in here?? People can get out so easily these days when they say they have mental problems, we know this guys has them for real, so why are we taking him in?
Anyway, it pisses me off today when I remember what I had to do. Then, it was kind of exciting and well, I figured it's what we need to do. Now? I don't think so. When we were in the shooting range, with live ammo, my only job was to guard this guy when he shoots. If he should make any sudden moves, get up, what ever, I was to jump on his back and hold him. What the **** is that? I mean, he has an assault rifle and unstable mindset, and my job is to 'jump on his back'???! How about I get a gun as well? Or better yet, how about this guy does not get a gun and ammo?!?!?!?
Anyway, didn't have to do anything, guarded him closely. He did steal live ammo later on though, and with the ammo in his mag, he made a gun out of his finger and tell who he shoots first. THEN he was finally out of sight.
But it makes me wonder. A state tells you to serve, OK I serve. It tells you to do it for free. OK I do it for free. Then it says to you, here's thsi crazy guy, he might be dangerous, ok he is goign to get to shoot anyway, and you stand next to him and wrestle him down if he tries to massacre us all. Damn.. I need at least a raise or something.
