        silly euros.

Dating the birth of the European Union, to the birth of the European Economic Community. We might as well date the birth of the German state to the birth of the Zollverien. Heck, maybe we should celebrate the birth of United North America (yeah, yeah, I know a FTA isnt a customs union) Why not just date it to the birth of the European Coal and Steel Community, which would make it even older?

The political entity currently called the "European Union" started with the Treaty of Rome in 1957. It has evolved quite a bit since then -even the name changed in 1995 to become "EU"- but this change was from within.

Many, many things still present in the treaties date back to 1957.

You know you've played too much Civ when you wonder if the EU anthem being played will add population points under Republic and Democracy.
