We already tried blanket amnesty. It failed and only encouraged more illegal immigration. I fail to see why it would work this time.
Because it's not a permanent solution, but it is a temporary one. Combine it with a long-term solution (just let them in legally from now on) and suddenly your illegal immigrant problem disappears.Comment

LotM: I dunno. Punishing the people that employ illegals seems to be the most humane method of getting people to leave if that is the aim. Without a job the school issue you mention becomes irrelevent.

If we're going to talk amnesty, which I'm not particularly for, amnesty would only include those illegals who turn themselves in are documented as being here.
