  • bands/songs you are ashamed to like

the problem is I'm too ashamed to admit to liking them in this thread. But I'll come out of the closet for the first and only time for you guys.

actually I'm ashamed about most of the music I listen to. All of my aquaintances and friends listen to normal music. They don't listen to the crap I listen to. People have negative stereotypes of the music I listen to. So I generally don't tell people I listen to metal. In fact, I took a lot of heat in school because of the music I listened to. That's why I don't reveal it.

And a lot of it depends on who I am talking to. But generally I'm ashamed of liking classical music. I don't tell many people that I listen to it. They just don't understand why I like it. I'm especially fond of a program called pipe dreams on my local classical music station on sunday nights. pipe organs.

    Bands/artists I'm ashamed of:

Beastie Boys- something I like about them. mainly their hits. I don't actually own any albums from them
    Blondie- love the band
body count- not the most talented, but I like the attitude- not too rap/metallish
Chicago- mainly their hits I like, but it still seems gay to like them
Cyndi Lauper- only her 3 hits, but I do like those hits
cypress hill- the problem with rap is it goes out of style too quickly. but I still like the old stuff
    gogo's- just their 2 hits
    John Mellencamp- I'm so ashamed
Kid Rock- only like 2 songs, but I like them
manowar- these guys are over the top cliche- but that's what I like about em
marylin manson- really I only like 2 albums from him, even if he was just a fad
    motley crue- hair band
pat benatar- only because it's so embarassing to like 80's stuff
ratt- oh god, what was I thinking?
    rod stewart- 'nuff said
run dmc- like the old school stuff like I said
scorpions- a guilty obsession- I love these guys. mainly from 75 to 85
sir mix-alot- his 2 hits monsta mack and baby got back
shaggy- his 2 hits I like as well
    styx
    supertramp
twisted sister- just their 2 hits. gawd

    Songs I'm ashamed of liking:

total eclipse of the heart by bonnie tyler. one hit wonder for sure. I love that song
devil went down to georgia- charlie daniels band- I ****ing dig this song
sailing away- christopher cross- mainly because it brings back very early feelings. can't remember much back then, just vague feelings
my ding-a-ling- Clarence Carter- the name is why I'm embarassed to like it
boots made for walkin'- nancy sinatra
come on feel the noise- quiet riot- coolest hair band song evar
    hell- squirrel nut zippers
    eye of the tiger- surivor
I know what boys like- the waitresses

actually some of the artists I'm not too ashamed of. They were quite popular and are classic rock station staples. I'm mainly talking about styx and supertramp.

This list compiled through a quick scan through of itunes. I haven't checked my old cassette tapes. . But I figure I probably don't like them anymore if I didn't bother downloading their songs. Bands like Babylon A.D. What was I thinking buying that album?

I LOVE "Total Eclipse of the Heart"! It's beyond bad -- it dwells in some shameless wonderland of overproduction where terms like "good" and "bad" have no meaning -- a land presided over by Meat Loaf, but in which Bonnie Tyler reigns as queen. Stand up and be proud, Dis.

van halen - telling people who are beatles fans or worse pink floyd fans that van halen is the best, most talented band ever even if you dont believe it is worth it.

Is hating a song because it's catchy the same as liking it?

I sort of hope so for the sake of all those who like mmm bop...

                      Anyway if that's the case:

                      All Saints - Rock Steady.

it just seems most people seem to think it's only cool to like music that is new. My brother is like that.

straight american men dont have the same liberties to like those artists that gay brits do.
