Many mexicans are full blooded native americans who speak spanish and lost the native american culture, or more often mixed with spanish but predominantly native american.

In the USA I think they accept for example people only 1/8 navajo as native americans, so often yank native americans look more like europeans than hispanics.

The native american representant of the USA that went to Bolivia when Evo Morales had that ceremony with native leaders from all the americas looked quite white to me.

Sloww is right , altough you do get some mexicans from the poorest souther states like Chiapas (Think of Comandante Marcos) who are maya and not part spanish.

I remember reading about a mexican illegal immigrant in the USA who had an accident, was taken to a hospital, and no one could communicate with him because not only he did not know english, he did not know spanish either, just his native tongue.

Spain ruled over Mexico. There were no present day "Mexicans". Spanish looked down on what came to be Mexicans, as having "impure" bloodlines.

Hundreds of thousands of spaniards moved to mexico during colonial times, and in colonial times Mexico had less than 5 million people.
