  • 300 (movie)

Just caught the movie lastnight; just wanted to say that this movie was just awesome, I loved every second of it. About half-way through, I really felt pumped for the Spartans, they seemed invincible, and I couldn't wait to see them thrash more men.

When I saw the Immortals come, I thought, ok here we go, Spartans Vs. Immortals. Straight away I thought of the Greeks and Persians unique units in Civilization IV, against each other. Was great fun.

I especially loved the slow motion, up-close, clear as crystal (we watched a digital screen) fighting with each of the enemies. No more blurry, disorientated camera-work. This is how all fighting sequences should be!

I hope for many more movies like this in the future.

I'm now sold on this movie. Is 300 the name of the movie? Nevermind, I'll find out.

So, did it really resemble hoplites fighting
(i.e. all are of the same importance for the battle line and fight in unison)

Or did they (as often) pick some of them to be the uber heroes, who alone are responsible for holding the phalanx together?
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "I am the Harbinger of Death. I arrive on winds of blessed air. Air that you no longer deserve."
Tamsin (Lost Girl): "He has fallen in battle and I must take him to the Einherjar in Valhalla"

I usually don't like this ubernew type of directing...say like Sin City. But I grudgingly watched a preview of 300 and was won over.

I liked the use of actual events:

Persias: Our arrows will be so numerous, they'll blot out the Sun.
Leonides: Then we'll fight in the shade.

Yes it is, for the 300 Spartans that, together with Leonidas, defended the pass.

Yes, but usually they are not fighting in group formation, I mean, when you have 300 men vs. thousands and thousands, formation wouldn't really work that well.

And no, all 300 of the hoplites were great fighters, as you will see. But of course, the king, and his right-hand men are more experienced.

If you've ever played RTW, you would know that a single group of Spartans holding a narrow traverse could hold off any army forever. Well-armored phalanxes are invincible when attacked from the front.

I so want to see this movie.

I think it's one of those rare movies that you won't be able to "spoil" and can be seen over and over and over

                      like Starshiptroopers

would you like to know more?
