I'm looking for a new AGP card to replace my Radeon 9800. My system is an Athlon 2800+ with 512 Mb so obviously I'm not after a top end card - just something reasonably price that will get me decent FPS at the higher settings on Rome Total War/ RON type games.

Thank you for that thoughtful and insightful input, Kuci.

Ask Shiva if this will work.

I have a Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT AGP card. Great bang for the buck, IMO. It runs Oblivion just fine. You'll probably have to add some ram, though.

Thanks for the advice, I probably go for a secondhand 7600 GT and some more RAM. I need something cheap as my Mobo is Socket A/ AGP, I figure one more graphics card will give me another 18 months use out of the system and then I can change the whole lot and get a PCI-E board with a current processor socket.
So it's just not worth spending much on a AGP card, moving to a PCI-E board now will still leave me either needing a new processor or having a Socket A/ PCI-E and having to change the Mobo again when I next upgrade.

If your current one isn't broke, then just keep it. You're not going to see a great deal of improvement imho.

I also have a Radeon 9800 (Pro), although with Pentium 2.8GHz and 1GB of RAM. I've been thinking of upgrading for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Will skip AGP and go for new PCI Express mobo, get a Core 2 Duo & 2GB of RAM and probably a Radeon 1950 Pro.

I had a Radeon 9800 Pro with an Athlon 64 3200+.
I upgraded to the GeForce 7800GS CO Superclock and saw a significant improvement across all my games. Some games were unplayable before with the 9800."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
