I think in post modernism the value of MBTs is relative. So Americans will think it's the M1xy, the rest will think it's the Leo2xy. It's totally subjective, so who am I to judge?

First we have to ask, what exactly is a "tank"? Are there real, objective distinctions between a "tank" and say, an "APC", a "light tank", "self propelled artillery" (as if artillery propelled itself and SPA wasnt in fact driven by human beings)

Having shown that the distinctions are arbitrary, that the category "tank" is arbitrary, and a fortiori, the category "main battle tank" (as opposed to a tank that fights in a lesser battle? Whats a main battle? Why is it privileged over other battles?) we can then proceed to ask who benefits by this terminology? Why do we speak of "armor" when the engine, the tread, etc are just as important? Why dont we speak of an attack by "treads" Clearly there is an attempt to imply that the "tank" is successor of the medieval knight (See "armored cavarly"), and to use it to justify feudal relics in the social system, especially racism, patriarchy, and homophobia.

        Class dismissed.

The real burning issue is, does anyone actually give a flying f**k?

This is not a nihilist MBT thread, but I'd hate to make you feel left out, so I'll just contemplate the whole thing.

Abrams is a "he". Don't let my gender bias stop you from arguing, though.

LOTM: Homophobia? How is a big machine with a gun particurly sexual-preference-biased. Its deploying institution might be, and lavendar and pink might not make good camouflage, but I can't see as the machine would give a flip either way.

Geez, you're dumb. The tank, bearing its large, phallic weapon, is assigned the duty of "penetrating" enemy territory, which with its fertile lands is clearly vaginal/uterine. Contrast this with ancient Greece, where triremes had the option of "ramming" other, equally phallic triremes. The bias is clear--heterosexism. And don't get me started on power outlets.
