For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Sorry, but I don't feel obligated to seriously consider the ramifications of superstitious beliefs.

Sorry Kuci - my post was badly worded. I wasn't referring in particular to any Apolyton poster, but more to the article which mentioned that Christians were not likely to buy into this.

              So disappointing...

I too thought this was a thread about David Cameron somehow finding a way to appeal to both religious voters and atheists at the same time.

I'm sure he'll find a way before the election...

                Ummmm, no. Just the opposite.

I think the protestants have long since accepted that the bible is a compromise between the bishops during the centuries. Lot of things have been left out and fine tuned to fit the late roman and medieval moral standards and preferations.

Church doctrine is a compromise among various ideologies. Which is why "fundamentalists" advocate discarding the vast majority of dogma, paring down Xnity to the scriptures.

Even if Jesus had brothers, was married to Mary the Magdalene and even if they had a child it wouldnt change the idea of christianity. Sure it would make him look more human but maybe we are ready to face the truth and dont need no bishops to decide on our behalf what may be revealed to us and what will be wiped away from our eyes. Even if the bones were those of Jesus it would not change anything. You didnt really think he physically ascended to heaven do you? I mean its obvious he left his carnal body behind right.

True, many Prots believe Mary may have had children with Joseph after Jesus was born. But marriage and physical children was not His purpose, and He proved to be remarkably purposeful. And no, the point of the resurrection and ascension is that He did so literally, physically.

He didn't tell anyone, even the priestly class, they couldn't marry. He said its up to the individual to decide for themself...

But he didn't supply the wine. Mary asked him to do something when the wine ran out. He said, "What does that have to do with me?" It wasn't his wedding.

Exactly, they were at a wedding, and the people getting married had run out of wine, so Mary tells him , Oh Jesus, come one, please, give the some wine, bitte
And Jesus says, woman, it is not yet the time for me to start doing miracles
And Mary goes, please please please
And Jesus says, argh, Ok! bring some jars full of water I ll turn them into wine
And the people at the party say : Whoa, usually they give the best wine early and the cheap one when we are all drunk, but this wine is better than the one we drank before

And because of that Catholics think that by praying to Mary, we can get things we may not get by praying to Jesus, because Mary tells Jesus in heaven, please please please, and makes Jesus answer our prayers.
