For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Is there any state intrusion into your life you would not oppose on the grounds of security just-in-case-you-were-a-terrorist? Police camera surveillance of your toilet, perhaps? After all, you might have a bomb factory in there.

I didnt take issue with you on policy but on rhetoric. I can oppose a civil liberties restriction (and I did oppose warrentless wiretaps without congressional authorization, and supported limitations on looking at library withdrawls) without calling it a "police state". Police states are real, they are very nasty, and to confuse a fundamentally liberal society that has a few more restrictions than is optimal with a police state, while it may suit libertarian paranoia, is demeaning to the victims of real police states.

Fair point, but the fear is that progressive erosion of liberties will, if unopposed, eventually lead to the citizen being naked in the gaze of the lidless eye of authority. For our own safety, of course.

AS long as we're not confusing Denethor with Sauron.

I don't find a warranted search a "gross violation of privacy." I'm not even sure I mind if the search is done without the knowledge of the suspect.

To raid someone's computer in the hope of finding something incriminating somewhere out there? That's pretty damn invasive considering the personal nature of the files and correspondence that are kept on them...

So long as we're not under the impression that Denethor is the guy we want in charge. Post-Boromir's death despairing Denethor, that is.

With a warrant you can already do that. But you have to raid their house and take the computer.

Well, I'm pretty sure more than .1% of the German population has engaged in some sort of music, video, or software piracy, so the government claim must be false
