  • Who's your favorite governor?

This is probably going to be a sparse topic, so governors from any time period and their equivalent from any country are eligible.

When thinking about your selection, consider governors who brilliantly led their state through a transformative period in history. Bonus points for ones who turned traditional politics on its head and pushed bold, progressive reforms, if that's your bag.

Imran was so peeved at Andrew Johnson, let's see what he thinks about my favorite governor:
    Spoiler:
    Orval Faubus

Just kidding. My favorite would probably be Winthrop Rockefeller, R-AR, 1967 - 1971.
meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Governor DeWitt Clinton of New York. Creator of the Erie Canal -- which opened up the Midwest and caused New York to grow to be the U.S.'s most populous city.

IIRC, while he was Mayor of New York, he instituted the layout of the city...that is, he leveled the hills, filled in the marshes, so that the streets would all run straight. He named the streets and avenues with numbers, with streets running east-west and avenues running north-south. Later, when immigrants started pouring in, the logical layout of the city made it easy for them to find their way.

            The grid system.

First implemented in Winchelsea, or so I was told in my schooldays.
