Will try it one last time tonight, see what I can get out of it. I do believe on some level that this idea has good potential to grow into something very useful in the distant future. Currently we are all living in a 2D Internet, the future could very well be a 3D internet with something similar to what you see in SL.
I do not think that Second Life will be it, though--the interface isn't that revolutionary, which precludes it from being immersive to the wider audience. The digital aspect of the service isn't top-notch, which prevents it from being that fun or even interesting to shortened attention spans. The scripting and object creation languages are obtuse, which prevents the regular joe from making anything their own.
At best, it's a half-step, one that's garnering more attention than it should.
