  • Does Rain Kill Mobile Broadband?

We're trying out sprint mobile broadband and it works great, until it starts to drizzle... Not pour, not rain, but drizzle! We can see the cell tower and we're in a high coverage area, but internet access disappears with a few rain drops, wtf?

Are we stuck with dial up?

The rain does act like a Faraday cage, blocking out the signal. That's why it's impossible to get good coverage in Amazon forest for instance...

the water droplets are much smaller than the wavelength of the radio signal...

He can't detect it either, so I wouldn't try and learn from him.

And on topic, bad weather seems to have an influence on the signal. Not sure if a slight drizzle could do that though...

Strong rain can also kill signals for satellite TV.

Happens sometimes to me, when there is very strong rain.

Are you sure you just didn't get water in your computer?

oh well, the router we got had a 1 hour shut off and it shut off because of that, not the rain. Oops
