From the CBC:

Ontario's new website aiming to find deadbeat parents looks much like a list of wanted posters — except most photos appear to be cropped out of family pictures from happier times.

The Ministry of Community and Social Services launched the website www.goodparentspay.com Monday, less than a month after announcing its latest effort to find parents who owe outstanding child support.

What do you guys think of this? I'm not sure yet, but it might just work. In any case, those are some great photos.

As I understand it, in the US, they're taking finding deadbeat parents to a high art. But I don't recall that they use shame anymore.

Maybe some deadbeat parents here on Poly can tell us how it works.

I know that the L.A. District Attorney's Office has a section dedicated to tracking down deadbeat parents and making them pay. IIRC, they have a website with pictures.

They used to be here. Various lobby groups convinced the government to make the support payer pay taxes on the entire income and then send the payments after tax.

I would think that was a very stupid move for a majority of cases, as the (usually) higher earner pays higher taxes and thus the total pool of after tax income would be lower (in a majority of cases).

Most provinces up here have entire departments dedicated to just this. Note the website says these guys could not be found with trace efforts. I'm not surprised. They are mostly labourers. Some are in the US. Even in Canada it is not difficult to disappear and be nearly impossible to find.

My wife's ex was a deadbeat. different juristictions are involved in different ways, but it's mostly passive. Colorado, for example, won't let you renew your driver's license if you owe support. The feds won't let you get or renew a passport. Still, there's not much active enforcement; my wife's ex moved from state to state, worked under the table, and managed to owe $30,000 before we finally had the order voided in exchange for his cooperation on other issues.

god that dude was scary. I have a story about child support. I applied through the AG here. I was told that if i didnt go to court with my kids for dna tests, the father wasnt protesting since he is on all the BC's, that theyd throw me in jail. I said cancel my wish for child support then. They told me hell no they wont if you dont comply your gonna go to jail. I was like who the hell are u protecting here me or him. Hell man i was married to my kids father for 12 years he was on the BC what else did they need? ON the other hand my GF has a kid by a dude in the civil sevice in germany and they wont do a dam thing to help her get CS, What is wrong with this picture?
