So, we've been having this discussion, which in my opininon is meaningless, but some people want to talk about the latest downsizing in Nokia.
It keeps me amazed how we talk about it. It started from the usual Finnish rhetorics, "So, Nokia is downsizing few hundred people. Is there no limit to their greed? The less people they have, the more people staying have to work, so they save money, so they can steal that money that is been made with the sweat of the workers".
Lovely. Now, let's look at the facts for a while though. Nokia consists of 4 business groups. Everybody with me so far? No? Ok I'll still continue. The unit that is downsizing is Enterprise Solutions. Even though Nokia is very profitable and good business, the ES has been making heavy losses for a long time now, in fact since it was established. Everybody with me so far? No? Ok, don't mind me still going about this, since you asked.
The workers involved arent' actually production workers. They aren't the ones at the factory. Oh? Hey, where are you going? Not interested? Well, they are still workers you know, software developers etc. Oh, you don't give a damn if they get fired, why? Because they make more money than you? Right.
Well let me continue. They've been doing very badly, and they're lagging, and can't seem to make the break even at all. So few hundred people have to go, however, most of them will be relocated to another job that is EQUIVALENT to their current position. Also, more openings are within the company than this downsizing, they are gathering MORE people than letting go.
"From my sweat". Dude, first you have to get a job to talk about the sweat of the workers and no, hanging out at the cafeteria of the union doesn't count. You have to actually put in hours.
But even though the facts are kind of reasonable for the downsizing in one business group, and ****, it doesn't break even, so what are you going to do? continue negative result for 10 years? How is that 'reasonable'? It's not about 'not making enough profit', it's about this unit spending more money than making it.
Apparently it still comes down to the greed of the managers and owners. YEah... have a wonderful day too, idiot. Let's see you put up a business, and make the opposite of profit, and see if you keep doing it, 'just to have a summer job for your nephew ready'. **** you. Yeah I said it. Come on *****, let's dance!
