  • Remote Connect to Civ4?

My laptop's Integrated video won't run Civ4. But my desktop's will. Can I remote connect to my desktop and thus play Civ4 like that, or will I still hit a wall?

    You're Off Topic! Go here:http://apolyton.net/forums/forumdisp...s=&forumid=268

    i'm kidding,

    you'll Hit a wall!
I've tried Real VNC... (I wanted to control my desktop with my laptop, when I was at University) and it was slow like hell. All thing is slow to be "draw" at your screen.

It's like being with an 28.8k modem and browsing the web.

Anyway; If you want to try it:
Secure, cost-effective remote access and support for your computer, from your desktop or mobile device. VNC® Connect enables cloud or direct connectivity.

You still get a lot of lag.

The windows remote desktop is crap... It's worse than RealVNC.

Anyway, I don't think you'll be able to do what you want to do.... maybe Asher can confirm this...

The best thing you could do, would be to put a web cam in front of your desktop monitor and stream it over the web. And to control the mouse you will connect remotely to your desktop.

You'll use the remote connection to control the mouse, but you'll be watching the video via a video player(which is recorded by your webcam) . Or you can take a software that will encore into a video format what is appearing on the desktop monitor, and you will stream it over the web.

            Edit:

What is the graphics chipset in your notebook?

oh yeah, and it doesn't work???? strange

I have the GMA900 in my laptop(915GM Express Chipset) and it work flawlessly.

I think Jon Miller have the same GMA than you and Civ4 is working on his laptop.

I've never used Remote Desktop, but if it does all the rendering on the other computer, consider: at a resolution of 1024x768 (low IMO) you'll be using 1024*768*4 = 3 MB/s of bandwidth. For one frame/second.

OTOH if it does rendering locally it won't work anyway.

you don't care about it, it say the same thing for me.

I have a Pentium M 2.0 GHZ with the GMA900(915GM chipset), 1GB RAM... and I can play on a standart map(medium graphics, 1152x864) without any lag.

Maybe a large maps would be slow in the end of the game, but it would be really playable.
