The social sciences it was dead easy to get a B or B minus in any of them without cracking a book
Damn, so I wonder how I got that C+ in economic history, or why I had to sweat studying the proper formulas for production functions and liquidity preference curves, or stay up all night writing an insightful term paper on Max Weber.
Guess some univs are easier than others.

I understood EXACTLY what OB meant.
I understood what he meant too, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. People with strong analytical skills can see that.

This is getting hilarious. One more example, not to be intended as proof.
As a computer engineering student in a world class program, I struggled to maintain a "B" average.
Once I transferred to a soft science, I graduated with Highest Honors.
So even though I have defended the soft sciences here, I can not and will not consider them equal academic challanges.
it really depends on the Uni. Where I went to college, the chair of poli sci had an ideological axe to grind against grade inflation, and everyone knew it was very hard to get good grades in poli sci.

While that's true, it's also true that some people are brighter than others.

I know damn well why I got a C, its just not compatible with what Flubber is saying. I wrote a damned decent term paper on the historical aspects of a book relating 18th century slavery in the sugar islands to the industrial revolution, but I didnt rigourously analyze the economics in the book.

Eli, no. I don't want to limit it. I'm not part of any security department, nor will I, nor would I. But I've studied the phenomenon, and continue to do that. Some day I hope I could be talking about it, to paying customers.
I am not teaching them access control, I am not teaching them how to lock up their systems. That's what they do now. I'm talking to them about how to use common sense. Not how to hide it, but to use common sense. To identify people from attackers. Do you think businesses can't have their own information secured? What about privacy, do you think you have the right to privacy and hide that information from others?
Right now I'm working in hospitals. They deal with important records, like patient records. Do you think those very private records should be protected well or not? Do you think it's public domain? Or what about your credit information?
I'm mostly dealing wiht identity theft, because it is one of the best ways to break into places. Do you have a problem with me speaking to people how to protect their identity? How to discover your identity has been stolen? And what to do, if you find out your identity has been, in fact, stolen? Is there some kind of moral problem with this?
Furthermore, I am a libertarian. To me, privacy is everything. Why do you think I've read Foucault and other authors? It is exactly because of these things, because I AM concerned about privacy AND the freedom of information at the same time (not being free).

well the univ, while very selective, did tell every freshman class "we DO make some mistakes"

wtf pekka?
I made a pseudo-philosophical pretentious statement that's supposed to be smart but isn't, and you suddenly turn serious on me?
FWIW, I agree with all you said. At least while I'm a common citizen. When I'm Emperor of Earth, I'll be shooting people like myself on sight.
"Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" - Commissioner Pravin Lal.
Eli, yeah well, you see, that could be easily misunderstood, just wanted to make it clear. I happen to agree, that most security chiefs or whatever are not only incompetent, but they are straight from some kind of weird DDR era. At least in here they are. ****, they even look like those dudes in the 80s. Bad dress, big belly, Trump has a good haircut compared to theirs, big TV screen glasses and ****.. and definitely hating everyone. You know, a weird mixture of a kid who got kicked in the head in the early days, and other half is an influence from some kind of cold war mumbojumbo. Two things you can't ask for these people, they're common sense and humanity.
I'm not like them. I find security interesting. In fact, I find hackers interesting. I'm not from 'the other side'. I'm not picking sides, that's stupid, you have to be stupid to see only two sides. Like cops and criminals. Man, if I wanted to be a cop, I woudl have joined the academy. Nah.. Plus, I see all these jackasses stealing my information and everyone elses information too, and sometimes it isn't even illegal, heck, most of the times it's OK. It's BS. I reckon if you use my information you stole in the first place and sell it to someone else, who can then use it in advertising or what ever, that's lke money laundering, and if you're going to do that, you pay me. Pay me. You got my information? Good, pay me. My information shouldn't be free, just to be stolen and used as goods to be sold, to be further used in business. Forget about it.
I've mostly seen idiots in these jobs, pure idiots. If I mention the word hacker, and don't spit the same second and swear in Italian, they think I must be a hacker, a communist, and possibly a pot smoker. To me, that's just stupidity, and how can you respect that? You can't.
