  • Seriously, do you still not understand the problem with what you said? I'll quote it again:

You may remember a few years ago when computer programers were a dime a dozen, spawned a very funny movie.

"spawned" in this instance is a transitive verb. It requires a subject and a direct object. The object is "a very funny movie", referring to Office Space. What is the subject?

    • Actually, it spawned a host of them. Not on the same topic, but the style was borrowed.

Though somehow I doubt you care. Too busy getting your rocks off with your friends here, picking on the solitary artsy type to endure you trolls with a bit of humor.

that's the best you could come up with in 15 minutes...
Nah, just stumbled on it. It was included in a post attacking my grammar after all. Though it would be the height of hypocrisy if I seriously tried to take someone to task over a period after professing my hatred of spelling nazis earlier.

Life is too short to worry about message board spelling.

So, let us keep in mind your constant grammatical mistakes in this thread and now revisit your original argument about arts students writing better than engineering students.

Well, it is an absolute truth in any case.

If it were formal text, sure. Since is me simply typing as I would speak, ie conversational, and changing subject like that is common English, it is absolutely fine.

Just like people talk with a whole lot of commas, when obviously they are inappropriate for text. Example:

It were formal text, sure. Since is me simply typing as I would speak, ie conversational, and changing subject like that is common English, it is absolutely fine.

IM conversations must be fun with you guys. Or better yet, mIRC.

              • Pattie, you've consistently contributed the worst writing in this thread.

Given the importance you placed on the benefits an education in the arts gives to a student's writing you should be ashamed.

You've made every mistake in the book: homophone errors, comma faults, missing apostrophes, sentence fragments, misconjugation (in ENGLISH, for Christ's sake),...

Apparently this is true. I am constantly pestered by people on IM.

That's more than a formal text error. It's an error which would cause me to reverse course and correct myself even in a spoken conversation with a friend.

You need a subject for that ****ing verb. Otherwise it just doesn't parse.

Or do you never go over you proofs before turing them in as finished product?

Why don't you get it right the first time?

Arts people are so inefficient. Did I mention you guys can't drive, either?

                        • Maybe it was a trait peculiar to my high school, but we got things like that drilled into our heads so often that it became second nature to write full sentences rather than disjointed strings of sentence fragments.

I know it's weird to somebody who needed to go to university to learn that ****, but it's true.

In all honesty, this may be a cultural disconnect.

In Canada, we are educated in high school.
In the USA, high school is a period of time for football, cheerleading, and drinking.

Whatever dude, it is not particularly relevant to how I speak, especially since there is nothing wrong with it. I could just have easily made that two sentences, and spoke it the same way. "Spawned a funny movie" was simply a statement.
