It's not just the profit. Calgary got huge infrastructure boosts in every possible way: from new dorms on campus to house Olympians, to the C-train extension to the NW to serve the campus, to the world-famous Olympic Oval, to the skijumps and bobsleigh tracks, world-renowned cross country skiing and downhill skiing facilities, etc. It is now the hub for Canadian Olympians and is still a huge boon to the economy today.
