I'm surprised no one's mentioned WHY Sony lost out during the last great format wars. A big part of it was because Sony didn't want the porn industry using their format (Betamax) on moral grounds and a such made it difficult for the skin peddlers to adopt it. VHS was less resistant. Whose format is Blu-ray? Sony, again they're resisting the porn industry, and again they'll lose out in the video arena with their format. Sony has learned nothing.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

              not so fast...

It's all hush-hush as backers of HD DVD and Blu-ray formats vie for the industry's attention.

Turns out that Blu-Ray is wooing the porn industry. They are trying to be clandestine about it.

You can play them in Winamp/WMP if you get the codecs (google "quicktime alternative")

Would be a sign of civilization if we finally let not the porn industry decide upon what format we'll use. But it'll most probably be too early for that.

Too early? Porn is increasing in popularity.

                        From the article...
None of the presenter's points gripped the audience like the slow-motion HD DVD video of a model emerging from a swimming pool, every drop glistening as it fell from her white bikini.

The porn industry is having trouble finding replicators to press Blu-ray DVDs.

HD DVD production methods are built on the old DVD standards, so the older machinery can be retooled to make the next-generation discs. But Blu-ray requires expensive new equipment. That's why there are only eight or so Blu-ray replicators in the world.
No wonder they're leaning HD DVD.
Even if a porn studio wants to pay extra for Blu-ray, Sony and Walt Disney Co. make it hard.

Sony manufactures Blu-ray discs but won't do it for adult titles. And Disney requires the replicators it uses to pledge not to use the same machines and employees to publish porn. Disney has its reasons: In the past, porn snippets have accidentally shown up on Disney titles. Neither company would comment for the record about porn.

I'm sure you could find a deviant page on the internet which brings those two tastes together in a revolting fashion.
