What about when people look back to a period from before they were born and conclude that things were better then?[/q]

They only see the best from those eras. The classic movie stations aren't going to show the utter drecks. They'll show the great movies, the "Streetcar Named Desire"s, the "Citizen Kane"s.

In the future when people look back at the 00s, people will see the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Brokeback Mountain, Memento, Sin City, Hotel Rwanda, and the like. They won't be seeing From Justin to Kelly or Stomp the Yard.
Ah, time acts like a shit-filter.

Please explain this concept to British terrestrial TV bosses.

Try to watch some Japan anime (but don't choose titles for kids). I started watching it for exactly the same reason - recent movies sucked but i had some free time at home i need to spend somehow. Anime is a paradise for any fantasy fan (like me) - it's just much easier to draw fantasy than to make a film so there is a lot of fantasy. There are some good space opera titles as well. Hell, there is even one good horror title (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni / When Cicadas Cry) - that is, it's good if you can ignore how it's painted. Plot and characters are generally better in anime compared to films. But don't forget to check raitings, it's a waste of time to watch some crap. Also, generally old titles doesn't look good (1999 or earlier). But there is a lot of computer graphics in a new releases (especially in science fiction ones).

I think I agree. I also think this means I am old...

I like the Vampire Princess Miyu OVA btw.

          Me too.

Hollywood has been stuck on sequels and comic movies for a decade now. Time to move on to something a little more original.

Battle Royal, a Japaneese movie I saw this weekend, is awesome. It would never be distributed in the US for sure. Just try to find it and watch it, you will understand.

            2 thumbs up by me!

Science Fiction has actually been OK in the last decade. Unlike most other types of movies. The Firefly movie, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and some of the Comic Book (Spiderman and Xmen I think) were pretty good.

It is the other sorts of movies which have been pretty poor fare. Or maybe I am just mostly tired of movies in general.

Hm, but HP or LOTR doesn't really fall into scifi for me.....rather fantasy. Also I'm not that much into comic movies though I liked the two you mentioned, Spidey and X-Men.....

Spiderman and X-Man are so retarded that i'm surprised that movie companies weren't sued for not putting a huge warnings "Don't watch if your IQ is bigger than 40" on film posters. No idea how it sells in USA, maybe they put something in popcorn in movie theatres so to make people more stupid?
