I have to admit I didn't like CoM despite being a SciFi fan and wanting to like it.

Owen Wilson is in the movie? Its news to me. He's not known for his acting abilities. But I'm pretty sure that Clive Owen did a good job, as usual.

It's a disease; a mysterious plague that overcomes us, covers us like a cold bed sheet as we get older.

Everything always seems at its best the first time you experience it; as time passes, what you love, loses its touch, loses its meaning, purpose, quality.

I am 27, and I miss the 80's. To me, the 80's was the best time of my life, best music, best movies, best games (and beginning to mid 90's). Now, I just can't get that old feeling back. GTA, Diablo 2, Civilization, these games I enjoy playing, but none of them bring that old feeling back. Half the time I feel like I am simply playing games either for the sake of it or in hopes I will get that good old feeling back.

However, I have realised that movies are not bad, just different. Like games, they're not bad, they're different than what they were.

I disagree with the 80s being great, but then, I don't remember them sucking so much as I do when I look back on them...

That was a straight-up Hollywood movie that kicked ass last year.

                    Clive Owen
                    Denzel Washington
                    Jodie Foster

The movie wasn't very good, granted. But Owen didn't suck in it, IRC.

I saw Closer recently and I loved the character he played. Seing Nathalie Portman's fine tush was an added bonus.

95% of most everything is garbage. We remember the best movies, songs, games, etc. from a time period and forget the garbage, hence the illusion of things getting worse.

What about when people look back to a period from before they were born and conclude that things were better then?

For all of my love of sci-fi, I didn't particularly care for the Matrix - I think the first one was an okay movie, the second and the third are very meh. Where are the good sci-fi movies now? Children of Men is somewhat sci-fi, at least, that's good.
When have sci-fi movies generally been good? There has always been a lot of crap and some great movies poking their heads above the morass. Like Alien, Star Wars, etc. But there is a lot of crappy sci-fi movies all throughout. It seems today though that more people are giving sci-fi a chance.

They only see the best from those eras. The classic movie stations aren't going to show the utter drecks. They'll show the great movies, the "Streetcar Named Desire"s, the "Citizen Kane"s.

In the future when people look back at the 00s, people will see the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Brokeback Mountain, Memento, Sin City, Hotel Rwanda, and the like. They won't be seeing From Justin to Kelly or Stomp the Yard.

Then in 30 years you can post about how they are wrong, that back in your day most movies were crap as well.
