  • Dr John Reid faces anarchy accusation

Home Secretary John Reid is under fire on several fronts as the Conservatives accused his department of descending into "anarchy".

First the head of the Youth Justice Board of England and Wales, Rod Morgan, quit in protest at prison overcrowding.
    BBC top story.

The Tories really don't want John Reid as PM after Blair do they.

I doubt that the crisis at the Home Office has much, if anything to do with John Reid.

These are problems that have been piling up for years, I expect, and are to do with deep problems with the establishment's loss of coherent direction, than with the failings of individual ministers.

I completely agree, but I think the Tories know that if they lay off Brown until he's in power and go for Reid now in order to damage his leadership chances, they'll face a man with far more established political weaknesses and bunglings.
