What is with people misspelling 'THE'?

I can imagine how it happened: out of millions of morons every day that misspell words, one particular illiterate, probably a nerd playing World of Warcraft, starts a trend that all his nerdy cronies think is amusing. Next thing you know, his misspelling is featuring in chat rooms across the globe.

This trend must be stopped before aliens observing our species conclude we are nothing but retards and it is therefore okay to build an intergalactic highway through our solar system.
