only kidding about the porn. Actually it isn't as preposterous as it sounds. As it only applies to children up to 3 years old. You could make a case that there is no reason to spank a kid under 3. But I disagree. That is the age where spanking is most effective. As kids under 3 aren't going to care about having toys taken away, or sent to their room, being grounded etc. You just have to watch your strength and not hit too hard.

Not to mention how un-enforcible this law would be. The only time it would be a case is if a kid is taken to a hopsital. In which case it is not spanking, but child abuse. Though I suppose you could get arrested for doing this in a public place such as a supermarket.

Kids under three hardly need to be punished at all. Punishing mainly teaches them to be devious and hide what they did. You teach them to think about what they did. Yup, even at that age. You relate to them. If you have to do something, you make it be a logical consequence of what they did. And no, youre wrong, they dont like being sent to their room, generally.

You can also use positive consequence, though I think the over use of arbitrary rewards creates problems too.

Our policy was to never hit, unless it was a case of imminent physical danger, like running into traffic. Funny how that almost never came up.
