One test is not really that big a deal. They had to make sure the thing actually worked...

Once again China proves how far behind in the military tech fields they are. Why is it when China does something for the first time we did two decades ago everyone acts like they just achieved the equivalent of Trinity?

CNN had this menacing story with ominous music yesterday about the "advanced" new Chinese JU-10 fighter talking about how modern and threatening it was. The thing is less capable than an F-16 and is two generations behind the F-22.

They're catching up, though (not that I think that's necessarily a good thing).

5 years ago they hadn't yet put a man in space. In the 60s they still had cavalry. Like with horses.

          There are several possibilities...

          1. We must not allow a ____ gap!

          2. Sure, their stuff might suck, but it's getting less sucky and there are just so damned many of those bastards!

          3. We wanna sell newspapers.

          4. All of the above.

Just when you were ready to nuke China from orbit, you realised that they can strike first

                      With an F-15 no less.

Once you can shoot down satellites, it does not matter how old the technology is. Its the same principle as a nuke. A nuke with crica 1945 technology can kill hundreds of thousands of people. That is is not as "new" as a nuke with 1980's tech is irrelevant. And if you show you can shoot down satellites, that is enough.

Except that the "1950s nuke" has to be carried by an incredibly expensive solid fuel rocket. That's a crapload of money to spend on an intercept for one measily, overlapped eye in the sky.

This will just mean that satellites will be redesigned. There will be decoy satellites and such. It really makes no difference. Just more escalation. For now, there will just be some fear-mongering in the US and Japan, and then it will be forgotten.
