  • Shilpa Shetty faces possible racism on Big Brother; her publicist forgives it

    Link

Actor Shilpa Shetty gets called a f*****g Paki on camera.

Recently, Shilpa Shetty has been insulted as a 'f*****g Paki' on Celebrity Big Brother. Jack Tweed, a 19-year-old youth, was having a private chat in bed with his 25-year-old girlfriend Jade Goody, whose mother Jackiey Budden, was the first person to be evicted from the show.

Reacting to this racial comment, Dale Bhagwagar, Shilpa Shetty's publicist and spokesperson, said, "Shilpa is God's child. Jack is God's child. Indians are God's children and so are Pakistanis.

So how does it matter who said what to whom? All human beings are ultimately connected by a single abounding energy. So, how does it matter who belongs to what race, religion, country, colour or creed?"

A diplomatic Dale, refused to be drawn into any controversy regarding whether Channel 4 or even Indians should react strongly to such an unpleasant comment. "Pakistanis are no less than Indians. So degrading them is like degrading any citizen of any country.

Knowing Shilpa, I'm sure after the knee-jerk reaction and retaliation that she might have had, she would ultimately forgive and forget Jack's comment, passing it off as any amateur's comment who is not learned enough to understand that we are all one."

Meanwhile, Jackiey Budden's interview that was aired on one of the channels shortly after her eviction where the she had spit venom against Shilpa claiming that 'the Indian' was 'jarring me big-time'. Dale said, "I want to ask Jackiey if she would say the same words when this 'Indian' wins".

As for using the four-letter word, Dale added, "In jest or in the passing, we all use the F-word. Westerners just use it more liberally. Probably, they don't even realise when they are using expletive. I guess, they should be forgiven." PDG
There is some controversy over whether or not he actually called her a "Paki" - some sources say the he actually called her a "c***".

But to quote another person's comment on another site,

However there was definitely incidents of racism, for example when complaining that Shilpa had undercooked the chicken suggesting that in India that is how all chicken in cooked, which in turn makes 'them' ill, which in turn makes 'them' stay slim.
Now I'm not one to draw inferences without much proof, but the above comment seems indicative that racial prejudice may, in fact, have been involved.

Quite an Aryan moral story, isn't it? An Aryan was insulted in a very offensive manner, but she forgave, for she saw the it would be beneath her dignity to reply. This teaches us the value of self-restraint.

    Another comment:

What I found awful was the comment from Danielle when she said "That's why they are so thin over there (India) cause they eat this dirty food and then throw up".

Going on "Big Brother?" Yeah, that sure makes one a shining beacon of moral superiority.

I've never watched the show, 'cause (unless I'm mistaken) it's yet another one of these godawful "reality" TV shows where idiots parade themselves for our amusement.

So what you're saying is, you don't know what name she was called?

The Indian media have made quite a big thing out of it, so I thought it newsworthy.

                  What is this TV show?

I saw the Wiki link, and it says:

Big Brother is a reality TV show broadcast on Channel 4, and S4C in Wales, in which a number of contestants live in an isolated house trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize at the end of the run.
Why would somebody watch that? I can understand wanting to take part, but why watch? It seems insufferably boring to me.

For god's sake why would you draw that conclusion?

well this 'news' was on the radio as well, unsuprising really as almost anything big brother related makes it on the news.

There have been lots of complaints to the tv watchdog and so on
