  • The Meatrix

A rather interesting spoof the the Matrix movies used to raise awareness about some of the down sides of corporate factory farms.

Personally, I don't care who owns the farms just as long as I still get choices and low prices. The family farm is pretty much dead unless they're selling something nonstandard (heirloom varieties or trying to produce exotic fruits or something) or they're doing something to capture more of the value added profits (examples are dairy men who don't just sell milk but also make artisan cheese or wheat farmers who use their crop to make artisan whiskey, etc...). Still, internet videos like this are likely to do more for their cause then a million PETA freaks throwing paint onto womens' fur coats.

I do find them to be misleading on several details (debeaking, tail docking, using cow parts to feed other cows [this was banned back in the 90's due to madcow fears]) but it is good propaganda.

The Meatrix website offers information on the issues surrounding factory farming, as well as alternatives to conventionally-raised meat, poultry, dairy, and eggs. The website also features The Meatrix Interactive, a tool to help people learn about factory farming.

I do like how they have a family farm finder on their site. I doubt "family farms" are much better then corporate farms but this is how advocacy should work. They're simply trying to convince you and then local orangic food producers & sellers then make their sales pitch. That's a much better approach then the preachy brow-beating the eco-nazis usually try.

I should think so, since fur coats have nothing to do with dairy and a wheat farmers...

I remember seeing these before, wasn't too impressed then either.
