HIALEAH, Fla. -- A pipe bomb was found Sunday attached to the car of a federal witness and later detonated without incident, authorities said.
The witness drove his vehicle to the Hialeah police headquarters after noticing the device, FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said.
"He was driving around," she said. "He somehow saw something on his car that was suspicious and drove it to the Hialeah Police Department."
The Miami-Dade bomb squad detonated the device, and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force was investigating, Orihuela said.
No additional details about the witness or vehicle were released. It was unclear if the device was removed from the vehicle before being detonated.
Hialeah and Miami-Dade police referred calls to the FBI.
