They were designed for different things. It's like comparing Concorde and a 747.

      747 > Concorde.

          Not a troll, common sense.

Look at the crash rate of the Concorde. Typical Euro crap.

Max. speed of Mach 2 is useless in dogfights. Harrier has beaten faster planes because the thrust vectoring made it more agile than conventional aircraft.

Exactly one Concorde crash against how many of B 747?

                rate, you crazy Euro.

Max. speed of Mach 2 is useless in dogfights.

It reached mach 2 at 3/4 thrust. The latest version before it was cancelled for political reasons was to hit mach 3.

And you don't dogfight in such jets. You zoom into weapons range, release your weaponry, then zoom out.

You also fail to mention that the Arrow was actually faster than the missiles of the day available...

Not in the 50ies (and not for a while longer), crazy Asher, because guided missiles were pretty ****ty back then. Also most early long and medium range missiles were not "fire and forget" ready, so the pilots simply couldn't "zoom out", but had to keep the target locked on.

No kidding. Perhaps it was an asset to move much faster then your opponent. The Harrier was actually not that maneuverable when in full flight. Being able to take off and land vertically was its only asset, and it was an economical one for the pathetically poor Brits.

And the B-52 has been flying since 1952 and is still one of the best modern bombers.

That's 'cos there haven't been many bombers built to do the duty the B-52 was designed to do. Some have been built with stealth in mind, others to be smaller and more nimble...but to just carry massive bomb loads in the manner of the B-52? you're looking at mass use of Cruise missles as the more modern equivalent IIUC.

At over a million bucks a pop? No way. Pinpoint strikes on very important targets, maybe, but the bang/buck of a B-52 sortie is far better than a cruise missile strike.

bollocks, its way more maneuverable than the vast majority of those planes made before fly by wire computer assisted designs came in
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
