Bear in mind that Core2 Duo and Core Duo are equivalently priced, and that Core Duo is a step up from Pentium M. If you can afford it, you should go with the Core2, even if it is rated at a lower clock speed than the 2GHz Pentium M.

I dont' know what everyone else is complaining about. I do run it on smaller worlds.

ibm thinkpad is still the best laptop. its one of the lightest, good battery life, suprisingly can handle apps well for its specification, runs very cool. everything u REALLY need to look for in a laptop, for laptop uses and purposes.

when i had dell laptop, i was pleased with performance, but felt like i bought a mobile desktop. and carrying it to the library 3rd floor everyday was pain.

when i got averatec, i had nothing but weight in my mind. well avertec was very small ergonomic design, light but ran very hot.

if u want a mobile desktop though, go with other ppl's recommendation. then u'll be able to play civ4 on max res, huge map 18civ etc.
          :-p

From what I heard with Lenova the QA went down hill. So while you can still get a very good laptop from them, you can also get a stinker. Which is why I moved them to third place.

Yeah, I have the M405 and enjoy it a lot. A bit on the heavy side for my weakass self. (4.5 lbs roughly)

*sigh* I've avoided Dell's site until now. A comparable laptop from Dell is roughly two hundred dollars less than those of its competitors. I don't want another Dell. Although my laptop did everything I wanted it to do (except play Civ 4) when it was functioning, the times when it was not functioning were bad experiences that left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't want another Dell.

It certainly sounds like something that would deter me if something like a laptop died that young and they didn't offer to repair it as a 'gesture of good will'...that would be a way to secure your custom. Look what they did for Asher's dad!

With coupons, DPA discount, etc., it will be even cheaper.

The problem with Dell is QA. So whjile you can get a good one, and they are cheap, you can also get a stinker. Probably liklier than Toshiba, for example.

This thread might have some info youll need.

Best laptops i ever repaired were Toshiba, IBM for reliability, or Acer for the cheaper but still decent end.

Asus mostly sells in europe, but there are resellers. I don't know where my list was.
