  • European banknotes picture thread

    I just realised that:

    - the Euro sucks
    - Euro banknotes suck

Post a picture of your country's banknotes before the Euro invasion!

    1000 Lire

    1980

    Marco Polo, er, traveller

    1990

Maria Montessori, educator of mentally retarded children

    2000 Lire

Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of the radiotelegraph (down Nikola Tesla's throat)

    5000 Lire

    Vincenzo Bellini, musician

    10000 Lire

Alessandro Volta, inventor of the battery

    50000 Lire

Gian Lorenzo Bernini, painter, sculptor and architect

    100000 Lire

    Caravaggio, painter

    500000 Lire

    Raffaello, painter

of course it's big as it was my favourite banknote

now, let's see what do we have

    arches and aqueducts

    purple goth domes!

    confessionals

    a gay renaissance-style entrance door

I don't know what that is

I have NO idea what that is!

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

I recall once reading that the bridges on some of the euro notes, if actually built, would be structurally unstable.

Upon the introduction of the euro we had the following bills in circulation:

                Last series:
                Designer: Jaap Drupsteen

                previous series:
                Designer: R. (Ootje) Oxenaar

Apart from the Fl 1000,- (=$500) I have the bills framed and hanging on the wall.
                Nice art

The Italian Euro bills look nicer then the Lira bills IMO.

Call this another euro myth, because those things have been built (at least bridges in those styles) and are still standing

This alone should be reason for you to stop worrying and love the euro.

All of the Deutsche Mark notes had faces as well as some icons of what they were famous for. It's the bell curve of Gauss (NOT invented by Bell), some butterfly drawing by Anna Merian, baroque and rococo architecture by Neumann etc. pp.

5 DM - Bettina von Arnim, poet

10 DM - Carl Friedrich Gauss, mathematician

                              20 DM - Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, writer

50 DM - Balthasar Neumann, architect

100 DM - Clara Schumann, composer

200 DM - Paul Ehrlich, chemist and physician; my father keeps insisting that was Robert Koch on the 200 note

500 DM - Anna Maria Merian, natural researcher

1000 DM - Brothers Grimm, horror movie script writers
