"This is a great victory for Christianity, for civil liberties and for anyone who wants to express an opinion which may go against what the political correctness brigade think.
It's amusing that hardcore zealots always claim "their christianity" is the true and only christianity.
On top of that it's despicable that this kind of people can spread its hatred propaganda simply for the sake of religion.

Suppose the cult of Traianvs states that Jews, Gypsies and handicapped people are aberrations, and someone goes around spreading the word of Traianvs...!

This is just another good example why religion is so wrong. Most of the time it's merely an excuse for some bigots to spread their narrow-minded ideas!

My BBC isn't that god, but if I understand this right, then they get this rediciusly high amount of money because police asked questions, not because of their pov's controverse. That is good since police shouldn't do such things. What these idiots forgetis that they lost on the account that relly matters, wich is if religious zealots should be allowed to display their hatred in public.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

The police went to these people's home to interrogate them about their views??? WTF is that about?! Their actions, okay, but their views??

This was total ridiculous. I dont want the police questioning me about my beliefs. The court was right to award them the money. People have freedom of speech and religion, and the police have no right to simply question you about your beliefs.

Maybe you don't hate people who believe differently, but have I said that?
I'm talking about religious zealots here.

The couple had asked for Christian literature to be displayed alongside gay rights' literature and "were astonished" when Wyre Borough Council refused.

During a call to the council to complain Mrs Roberts expressed her religious belief that homosexual practice was morally wrong.

That led to the council informing the police, who then sent two officers to the couple's home to interrogate them on their views.
Hell, if they want to display Christian literature.. by all means do so; what do I care. However, if it's purely because it's their belief that homosexual practice is morally wrong, then there's something wrong in my eyes. If every display of ideas that doesn't correspond with their radical stance had to be countered with propaganda for their own views, then we'd be well on our way to a polarization of them vs us. The morally wrong and the righteous good.

                    C'mon that couple's simply ridiculous
I mean all that for some gay rights leaflets. It's just about equal rights. Even if you don't agree with gays you can't argue against that... at least you can't if you treat everyone equally, which is obviously not the case with many many religious fundies. And that's a plain fact, like it or not.

woteva... I don't even see your point really. The leaflets were about gay rights, meaning that they should not be treated otherwise/ discriminated upon

It seems kind of idiotic that police would interrogate those morons, so I guess they do have a point (unless her "complaint" was a menace, but it seems it wasn't), notwithstanding their detestable homophobia.

So some Brits were playing stupidity-chicken with the constables, the constables flinched first, and therefore they had to pay? This would be funny if it didn't waste roughly $20K of public money (assuming the police budget paid for the settlement--the article doesn't say). Our "bridge to nowhere" sounds mighty good compared to giving a pair of cranks a fortune in cash to compensate them for an unnecessary police interview one hour in length. At least some Aleuts might use that bridge to dry seal-hides on or something.

Or is the U.S. government wasting tons of funds on whiners like these too? I doubt it, seeing as some black folk have been waiting for forty acres and a mule apiece for well over a century now, and they're legally owed those...we don't waste money, we merely buy votes. Corruption > PC Cowardice?

The coppers were wrong to question these Christians, but the Christians were wrong to extract public money in return.

It's the price you pay for freedom of speech.

You haven't got freedom of speech unless someone else's right to offend and insult you is protected by law.

If you want to have the right to think, believe and say what you want, then you NEED to protect bigots, morons and Americans when they open their mouths, too.
