THE Christmas spirit must have been absent from a carols service in Sydney last night after police were called to break up a brawl involving up to 1000 youths.
Officers from three stations were called to the Glenmore Park Carols by Candlelight service about 9.30pm (AEDT) following reports of the brawl, a police spokeswoman said.
"Police responded to Glenmore Park after reports of a large group of young people allegedly brawling and behaving in a disorderly manner," the spokeswoman said.
She could not confirm radio reports that there were up to 1000 teenagers throwing bottles and damaging property, or that the riot squad was called in.
A number of young people were moved on, but no arrests were made, and officers remained until the end of the service to ensure there was no more trouble, the spokeswoman said.
