NK relies on extortion because their regime has done a wonderful job of repressing their society to such an extent that they've stifled any sort of development. Sanctions? Yes, but then again China gives them all sorts of free goodies (food, power). The fact is their economy is totally dysfunctional, and it's not our fault.
NK whines and cries and threatens because that's they only way they think they can have their cake and eat it too (get the goodies and stay in power w/o any serious reform). So far, it's largely worked, because we've been reluctant to simply walk away and ignore them. There are valid reasons for that, mind you, but I've always wished we'd tried just ignoring them.
But with sanctions in place, there's no incentive to change that.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
You guys apparently don't get the humor in Nancy Pelosi appointing this dim bulb as chair of the "intelligence" committee after she, more than any other Dem, campaigned on Republican incompetence.
But more.
What is the common refrain of liberal comics across the world? Just how stupid Republicans are -- after all, they believe in God.
But this idiot is beyond the pale. He tops Ford (Poland is not dominated by the Soviet Union) in his ignorance.
Nancy Pelosi is beyond arrogant in putting this fool in charge of such an important committee. She must think the American Republic is toilet paper she can wipe her ... with to amuse herself.
Who asks Canada for anything? Where's your frame of reference?
You ask for lots of things. Oil, natural gas and hydro are the main ones lately. PLus you don't seem to mind our troops doing some of the hard slogging inn Afghanistan

She gets to suggest people but 9 times out of 10 the most senior man gets the position no matter how unqualified he is. Sad, but that's Congress. Also this same reporter has been asking this same question every year since 9/11. He asks dozens and dozens of people in government then publishes which ones say stupid things. He caught the head of the CIA and the outgoing Republican chair of the Intelligence subcomittee saying similiarly idiot things.
The problem is no one gets into Congress by being well educated and worldly. They get into Congress because they have good hair, are photogenic, and have lots of money. Thus we end up with idiots.

BTW that last quote is just retarded. It displays a complete lack of understanding for how Congress works and how people become committee heads as well as ignorance that the out going head said virtually the same stupid nonsense. They're no better or worse though I do wish some sort of competency test would be administered prior to becoming the chair. It's sad that after 5 years of asking different people the same question Congressmen are still to stupid to anwser correctly.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
