  • So I finally bought an Ipod

Just a nano for my daughter.

Silly me, its been some while since I worked with a mac so I forgot about Steve Jobs and his desire to control the world one computer at a time. Never mind that the Ipod is a very nice device and that itunes seems quite sophisticated. After updating to IE7 I restart and my ever vigilant ZA says some Itunes bull**** wants access to the internet. **** that says I and deny access. I look at active processes and find two new pieces of macintosh bull**** happily sucking up the juices from my little PC so they got zapped. Did I say they could do that? No I didnt! Was I asked if it was OK? No I wasnt! Now I have to find out what they are, what they do, and if I choose to do so wipe them out (if I can).

**** Steve Jobs and all things macintosh! What an asshat!

Next rant , "ATI and its goddam catalyst control center coup"!

      About iTunes:

One thing, and only one thing I hate about Ipod is: Itunes.

Itunes is the only reason why I dont want to buy an Ipod. So it's the reason why I will buy a Samsung YP(2GB) after Christmas

I ranted at Itunes for a while when I was trying to load up my daughters ipod with her music (we'll be away from our PC's over christmas so I want something on it). There seemed to be no obvious way to do it but once I cottoned-on it worked very well.

I used to be a big winamp fan but they became more and more 'apple-like' in their uninvited installation activities over the years so I stopped using it. They may have stopped doing that crap but their are lots of alternatives now (I note that one cant use winamp to burn more than 5 cd's without paying for an upgrade).

SpencerH, I hate that too... I mean, when my ZA gets all pissed off because some applications is trying to do something, and it seems totally out of place action for that application.

And yeah, when new processes seems to be popping up after installation of 'benign' code.. man I hate that. I get all violent when this happens. And yes, I also scream the same 'who the f gave you the permission to... I wasn't asked!'... Simply pisses me off.

The iPod Nano has been my best gadget purchase in a long, long time. I listen to podcasts rather than music.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. A good thing about iPod is that it has started a fierce competition for mp3-player markets.. everyone wants to be in it, and they sell a lot. Creating new market there, so I predict we will see better players and cheaper prices all the time plus the music industry has to get on it, giving better deals and service to feed these gadgets. But when it comes to music industry, I wouldn't be so sure..

I remember the first day I held an ipod when they first came out, I thought it was a brilliant piece of hardware . After playing with the nano yesterday I still think the same thing (despite that I wouldnt buy one for myself).

The iPhone is coming out soon, which I might buy, if it shows similar quality of industrial design to the iPod.

When it comes to wanting to rule the world, our dear friend Bill Gates is far, far ahead of Steve Jobs. However, I see China and some other nations are bucking the Windows trend and going with homegrown stuff, so maybe *both* Gates and Jobs will have to settle for smaller pieces of real estate, eh?

Aside from that Jobs wants to rule the world while Gates does so, it's a question of style. As a libertarian I can accept (if not like) that Gates has built a monopoly but I cant accept that Jobs thinks he has the right to say how you will use macintosh devices (for example that the Ipod previously erased all files when linked to a computer other than the original itunes site/puter in order to prevent piracy).

You're correct though, China is a problem.

Jobs is much more of a controlling monopolist than Gates is, which is why Jobs can't get a monopoly in the first place. People get sick of it.

                        Gates finds a balance.
