  • US prison population hits 7 million.

Amazing! Who to blame? What to do? Must be true, I saw it on TV.

They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,

    Following the rights movements
You clamped on with your iron fists,
    Drugs became conveniently
    Available for all the kids,

I buy my crack, my smack, my *****,
    Right here in Hollywood,

Nearly 2 million Americans are incarcerated
    In the prison system,
    Prison system of the U.S.

They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison,
They're trying to build a prison, (for you and me to live in)
    Another prison system,
    Another prison system,
Another prison system. (for you and me to live in)

Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
    You don't even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
    Against the new non-rich,

I buy my crack, my smack, my *****,
    Right here in Hollywood,

The percentage of Americans in the prison system
Prison system, has doubled since 1985,

They're trying to build a prison,
    For you and me,
    Oh baby, you and me.

All research and successful drug policy show
    That treatment should be increased,
    And law enforcement decreased,
    While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences,

Utilizing drugs to pay for secret wars around the world,
Drugs are now your global policy,
    Now you police the globe,

I buy my crack, my smack, my *****,

Drug money is used to rig elections,
    And train brutal corporate sponsored
    Dictators around the world.

That sounds like enough people to make a prison colony somewhere. Maybe that moon base shouldn't wait until 2024.

Probably most of them are drunken teenagers who invaded a home by accident and are now wrongfully imprisoned, or those that assault people and steal property who are also wrongfully imprisoned.

How many are murderers that the particular state has qualms about executing, and had rather feed and house?

How many of those are long term inmates vs short term inmates on drug offenses? Also that 7 million isn't just people in prison but includes people out on parole as well (which is what most nonviolent drug offenders get; a short prison sentence and then release on parole).

If you assault people and steal property...wrongfully imprisoned?

Oerdin, you see an article on this 7 mil figure? I wouldn't count people out on parole as 'prison population' myself.

How am I to blame for 7 million in prison? If it was up to me a fair chunk of those prisoners would be totaled with the US cemetary population.

I heard that on an NPR report about the same study. It was about the number of people in the prison system which included people out on parole as paroles were still officially "in the system".
