I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The advertising has been overlooked in regard to the obvious sponsor.

Put all the current Shuttle and ISS money into propultion research, restart manned space flight when we have better faster engines.

and more efficient engines. I think all manned spaceflight is stupid. Scrap the whole program.

The funny thing is that even though my browser isn't showing the pic you posted I was about to reply with a comment about that same sponsor

a more mundane application would be retirement communities, where the low-G environment would let people remain mobile much longer.

Indeed, a Ben Bova novel I just recently read involved a 70 year old rich guy moving permanently onto a space station because it allowed him to use his joints and such again without pain

Now, the big concern would be radiation ... they'd have to have really GOOD domes and such to protect from the various radiations that the Moon doesn't protect from that the Earth does. Otherwise you'd have a few months of really good activity followed by a few months of chemo and then death ...

lets not forget the moon is moving away from the Earth at the rate of 1 1/2 inches a year

Oooh they'll get to watch as mankind goes to sh*it due to a virus or something. No apocalypse story is complete without a moonbase .

Ben Bova . The sci-fi isn't completely solid but I still found his Moon books to be pretty good reads. He's good at capturing the ugly side of humanity too.
