It's sorta like that 'reaching for the spirit' thing that's popular with charismatic Christians these days. I went to a Catholic wedding a couple years ago and at the end the priest extends his straightened right arm, palm down at a 45 degree angle. I'm standing there thinking 'Wow, I had no idea about the recent changes in the Catholic Church'.
