I make more at Wal-Mart than I did at Kroger (a store with a union).

He's the one saying they force everyone's standard of living down. I'm correcting the fallacy.

We have a similar thing in the UK with smaller businesses whinging about how the bigger supermarkets are forcing them out of business and want them stopping. Alas, that is progress. Supermarkets are quite handy in the amount of stuff the stop and you can find what you are looking for as opposed to some overpriced local shop with very little variety.

So yeah, all these smaller businesses banding together seems to be nothing more than protectionism.

the thing i dont understand is how everyone has this black and white ideal with regards to business.

Protectionism is a market force. Government is a market force. Business must contend with market forces and I'm not crying if they dont make it.

                          Youre right KrazyHorse,

I meant to say that the Government affects the free market and regulates it and is prone to be stooges of protectionism. Get used to it.

I thought they banned super walmarts in my city. But I guess something happened, because now we have them. The cashier's union fought long and hard, but in the end, Walmart prevailed.

In my city is was fought by the unions the grocery stores cashiers are in. They make over $10 an hour. At walmart cashiers probably only make $6 an hour. Not that they should care, but if their place of business shuts downb ecause of walmart, they are out of a cushy job.
