Sounds like The Man (TM) did his work well then in promoting a stable relationship.

I never said our relationship was monogamous.

          I think its interesting that

          (1) people assume that a group marriage would consist of many wives with one husband, or vise versa. There's no reason to assume that.

          (2) people assume that in a marriage of many wives with one husband, or vise versa, the lone person of the minority sex would have a disproportionate share of the power. I can't think of any other social institution in which that would be true. In fact, I can't imagine having more than one wife precisely because I wouldn't want to be ganged up on. My wife is demanding enough -- why on earth would I want to multiply that?

Ah -- Saudi Arabia -- where people can still be legally executed for being gay or suspected of being gay.

                    2) A fair criticism. But I haven't seen any other evidence (and evidence with poorly understood systematics is better than no evidence).

                    3) Because instability trickles up.

Are we also kind of forgetting that we're talking about the 19th and early 20th Century here? It wasn't until the 1970s that women were gaining equal power in your garden variety monogamous relationships.

You aren't informed about these communities. Please quit discoursing about them until your remedy that.

[q=me]This reminds me of something similar... oh wait, I know!

"I have proof that there are Communists in the State Department"
"What proof? You mean like X which doesn't fit?"
"No, you are ignoring my evidence, I'm not doing your homework for you!"[/q]

Let's see. They were in an era of female subjugation and since it was looked down upon (and banned in many places) only the fringes of society partook.

Are you going to seriously tell me that there were communities of polygamous groups that treated women as equals in the society, which were made up of mainstream men and women, where the women ended up being oppressed and subjugated?

You have to love this argument style: "I have proof and evidence that you are wrong and you should read up on it, but I won't tell you where to read up on it, you should just find it yourself... but I won't tell you anything else except vague and cryptic stuff."

Give it up. **** or get off the pot.
