    Help a computer moron

    For the past two weeks, my parents' computer has been seriously bad. After some diagnosis, I understood it was because the hard drive was slowly collapsing. I contacted Dell, which sent me a new HD today.

    So far so good.

    Problem is, UPS comes home tomorrow to take back the old HD, and I must replace it immediately. So I did. Unfortunately, I can't find my CD of Windows XP Home, and thus I can't reinstall the system.

    I have a ****ing licence # (written on my computer case FFS), but I lack the CD
    Do you guys know where I can find a legal downloadable version of WinXP home, so that I can burn it from my laptop and install it on the broken comp?

        Come on Asher he must be kidding

            This is an oxymoron. You can´t even ask someone to give you his own personal serial code, as it wouldn´t work (tried this already)

                  Well, this is stupid. I have a licence to use WinXP, which I bought.

                  I could borrow a CD from any friend, and it'd work like a charm. But noooooo, I can't download the client from microsoft.com. How stupid is that?

                        Call Dell back. I am currently having trouble with my Dell and spent almost two hours on the phone with their tech support the other night. At one point, the tech guy and I thought there might be a problem with my CD (Windows XP Home), and he was going to ship me another one. If you did all that licensing and registration stuff, maybe they'll send you a new disk.

                            Update: finally found my winXP CD, along with all the other CDs that were shipped with the comp in the first place

                            Installed WinXP, and they didn't even ask my key

                            I'm now in the process of downloading and installing everything again
