  • Problems with yahoo toolbar.

The main problem I'm having is that it is on my computer and I can't seem to get rid of it. I hate toolbars and don't want one. I do however want to use yahoo instant messenger.

The problem is once I installed Y.I.M. it automatically installed three other programs which I didn't want and which it never even asked me if I wanted to install. One of those programs was yahoo's browser tool bar. I uninstalled the other three programs and Y.I.M. seems to still be working however the ****ING TOOLBAR IS STILL THERE!! I uninstalled it from the control panel and it is still there every time I launch my browser. It's hogging up my monitor space, I don't like it, I don't want it, and I can't seem to get rid of it without also uninstalling Y.I.M.

So tell me. How do I keep the instant messenger without being forced to see Yahoo's worthless advertising 24/7?

Stay away from anything Yahoo. They are in bed with a known spyware company. If you have to use the messenger, download trillian.

I normally use google IM (automatically part of gmail without needing to download anything else) or Microsoft Instant Messenger (MSN) though I've started dating a chick who has Yahoo so I've installed Yahoo. I must say based upon the amount of spyware and other crap that Yahoo installs without asking the user I do not want to continue using Yahoo.

Trillian is good because you can use all those instant messengers within one software package.

Everytime I have had to install Yahoo Messenger, I have had the option not to install the bundled stuff. I think you just have to choose manual install.

Hmm, I didn't know that. I'll have to download trillian today.

Trillian seems to be working well.
