It depends on the countries involved. I doubt that dual US-North Korean citizens have much to fear

Won't ship you back for dodging the draft. Why would we? What is this draft thing? To extradite the prospective criminal must have committed an offence that would be illegal here.

              No, it's national service.

                "National service" for the servees.

"Slavery" for those who are hauled off, shoved into uniform, and told to kill people they don't even know.

They should only give the vote to those who agree to serve.

                    Been reading Heinlein lately?

The draft exists, because we seem to think we'd die without hate. The Supremecy Clause of The Constitution isn't supreme, when compared with our stupidity.

One issue with requiring national service of everyone.. is that there are a lot of fields where you can't really start practicing until you are in your 30s.. and aren't really situated until you are 40 (any of the sciences (really), medicine, etc..). If I had to take national service.. it would make doing physics (for example) even harder.

But there are definitely lots of positives of requiring national service (I don't mean military, I mean service).

If the service could be types of things that woudl allow the person to continue education while they did it, and give them options for what they wanted to do.. it could be a positive thing I think. I know some areas (like military during war time) don't have much time for continuing education and the like, and would have to be balanced with the other types of service.

That's horse****. If we need a draft then we need a draft (I'm assuming a national emergency on the scale of WWII). If, however, we don't need a draft, then pulling 2 years out of everybody's life is stupid and wasteful.

And you can go to college and work some at the same time.. I did 10-20 hours a week during undergrad (and I was doing a heavy course load). I actually think in many cases it is positive for the education, because it keeps people focused better..

I know of people doing 40 hours (of work) a week + heavy course load...
