I have often heard the very same argument now advanced in Europe to justify the killing of the terminally ill and deformed to justify the deliberate killing of Schiavo here in the States. The arguments balance the benefit to the individual versus the cost to society. Such arguments were abhorant to the world in the '30's and 40's, and thus the NAZI regime was condemned as barbaric. Now they are accepted.
